The video for Money on the Dark Horse was created by band member and video whiz Teddy Mathias. If you can’t tell, the video was made using a green screen in the band’s studio. Teddy finished the video using 3d animation software. Paper Magazine had the following to say about the video:
“Blues rock Chicago four-piece Filligar have a new album out this week, Hexagon, and a new video for album track “Money on the Dark Horse,” which we’re excited to be premiering here on PAPERMAG. In the opening shots, the song’s twangy guitar riffs are accompanied by Dalí-esque footage of the band playing in a desert while a silvery cube rotates in the foreground. Later shots show the group, made up of brothers Johnny, Pete and Ted Mathias and close friend Casey Gibson, staring, joking and, in Johnny’s case, singing, in front of a black screen while pulsing orbs move in and out of the frame. Around the 4:00 mark, things start to get even more abstract: there’s an extended instrumental interlude with more bobbing spheres, cubes and even the bands’ disembodied fingers. It’s a cool video and, for what it’s worth, a soothing watch for those looking to vibe out on their Thursday afternoon.” – by Abby Schreiber
Teddy created the video using After Effects and Element 3d.
